From the archives: this one goes back to September 2022, when Jake and I celebrated our fourth anniversary a little early on the Amalfi Coast. Some trips deserve a second telling.
There are anniversary trips, and then there are anniversary trips โ the ones where you go somewhere so beautiful it feels like the place itself is in on the celebration. The Amalfi Coast in September was exactly that: warm without the August crowds, the sea still perfect, and every meal feeling like a small ceremony.
The greatest-hits version of Italy
Here’s what I love about the Amalfi Coast: it doesn’t ask you to choose. In a single day you get the sea and the sun, a long lunch that drifts into the afternoon, wine with a view, pizza, pasta, gelato โ the full Italian summer syllabus, no electives required. We ate our way down the coast with the focus of people who had trained for this. (Years of practice. We’re professionals.)
Four years of adventures
The caption I wrote at the time said it best: happy anniversary, Jake โ to many more years of adventures. There’s something about marking a milestone in a beautiful place that cements it differently. I don’t remember what we ordered at every meal, but I remember exactly how it felt to sit across from him, sun on our faces, the sea glittering below, thinking: yes. This. More of this.
Some trips are about the place. This one was about us, with the Amalfi Coast as the very gorgeous backdrop. Wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Next up: one more from the archives โ Venice, la dolce vita, 2017.
